Call For Writers

Write-A-Book Workshop

Hello Members,

The Sit-And-Write Workshop is entering its sixth month. I am proud that we have a regular following of devoted writers. People tell me that they like the work-centered approach and the friendly vibe. But some members have asked for more. For that reason I am going to start offering a new paid workshop called the Write-A-Book Workshop.

I know that I am not yet a famous writer, but I do have a set of skills that I think are valuable. I have a Masters in Education and a Degree in English. I just published my first book. I have another on the way and am finishing a third. I have experience in the classroom and have worked as a trainer for ESL instructors. I am a writing coach and a paid editor.

Enough with the credentials. Let’s talk about the group. It will be small — no more than 10 members. The group is for writers who want to tackle a book-length project: a collection of stories, a novel, a non-fiction book, or a novella. Each session will have a goal or theme and a exercise attached to that goal. Each goal is meant to bring us closer to finishing our book. For example, in session 2 we will work on outlining.

Sessions will also focus on critique. I want us to get to know one another well enough that we can deliver and receive critique. I want us to work on honing our critical eyes — and I have different practices to help us do that.

The workshop will begin on Saturday the 22nd of September and will continue every other weekend until the December holidays, at which point we will break and evaluate for the next quarter. The meeting will start at 3:00 and last till 5 or 6. We will meet at the Hodgepodge or occasionally at my house. I’m not saying attendance is mandatory but regular attendance makes sense for a group like this. The cost will be 30 dollars a session.
